Subtle Energy "Chair" Yoga to Release Hip Tension

Updated: Jul 21

If you've been stuck in bed more than you'd like—whether due to chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, POTS, or another condition—this post (and the gentle practice it introduces) is for you.

When living with chronic illness, there are often stretches of time where our bodies demand stillness. While rest is necessary and sacred, over time it can also lead to stiffness, disconnection, and a sense of frustration. Especially in the hips, the body can start to feel like it's closing in on itself. That’s why I created this subtle, nourishing Chair Yoga practice—to help gently reawaken and reconnect, without strain or effort.

I know firsthand how it feels to live in a body that doesn’t always cooperate. I’ve navigated life with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and POTS, and I learned (often the hard way) that pushing too hard only set me back.

But when I allowed myself to move slowly, with kindness and curiosity—something shifted. I started to restore not just my body, but my relationship with it.

This practice is especially useful when you’ve been lying down a lot, and need to reestablish connection between your upper and lower body. In this particular practice, we focus on the hips—a common area of tension and stagnation, especially when resting for long periods.

Whether you’re in a flare, in recovery, or just seeking a softer approach—this practice meets you where you are.
